Logtivity Notifications Are Now Much Easier to Use

Here at Logtivity we’re building a WordPress activity log with a difference. Yes, you can monitor every important event on your site, but you can also use that data in three helpful ways:

  1. Charts: Display your activity data with beautiful charts.
  2. Exports: Search and export the data, even if it has millions of database rows.
  3. Notifications: Send alert notifications to your email or Slack channels.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working on improvements to all three areas:

  1. Charts: Logtivity charts now have advanced date ranges.
  2. Exports: You can now export millions and millions of log entries.
  3. Notifications: Read on to find out more! We’ve just released an update for alert notifications.

What’s new with Logtivity notifications?

Notifications are now much easier to use. This screenshot below shows the previous version of the Notifications screen. There were a lot of options. Not everything on this screen was required, but users told us it was too busy. So we’ve been working on making this screen much simpler.

This next screen shows the new update for the “Notifications” screen. There are only three visible options now and all three have prompts to help you understand what to enter. The old options are still available if you click the “Advanced Options” link.

Notifications for administrator logins

Let’s take a look at several examples of how the notifications can work. For example, this next screenshot shows how you can get a notification for every administrator login.

  • Action: User Logged In
  • Context: administrator

In the screenshot below, you can see the logs that will trigger this notification. Logtivity records the administrator logins, and then uses those to send you an email or Slack notification.

Notifications for new posts

Let’s take a look at a second example. This next screenshot shows how you can get a notification for every new post published on your site:

  • Action: Post Published

In the screenshot below, you can see the logs that trigger this specific notification. You can also get some ideas for customizing this notification. One approach would be to enter “steveburge” in the “User” field. That would give you alerts for new posts published by that specific user.

Notifications for new Easy Digital Downloads subscriptions

Let’s take a look at a third example. This next screenshot shows how you can get a notification for every new subscription in Easy Digital Downloads (Logtivity has a tight integration with Easy Digital Downloads).

  • Action: Subscription Created

In the screenshot below, you can see the logs that trigger this notification. Our example alert is sending for every single subscription. However, looking at the logs you could create a more specific notification. For example, this alert will only send when someone subscribes to “Capabilities Pro”:

  • Action: Subscription Created
  • Context: Capabilities Pro

Let us know what you think of the new Notifications

Please give the new Notifications a test and let us know what you think.

This month, Logtivity users get improved notifications. Last month, we added cool new charts. In September, users got the ability to export millions of logs. Before that, in August, it was support for the Easy Digital Downloads plugin and several popular add-ons. We’re going to keep improving Logtivity quickly and would love to hear your ideas.
